Systems analysis of short-haul air transportation potentials in 1970-1980 time period was undertaken at MIT; paper summarizes some of conclusions of study as projected to next decade and also decade beyond and examines effect of postulating more rapidly growing travel demand than was assumed in original report; costs and operational characteristics of these systems are sensitive to size and nature of travel market; indications are that air transportation could hold key to solution of problems of short-haul travel in heavily populated areas.
