New satellite application to provide navigation information to aircraft and ships is considered which would include position determination, communications, aid to safety during movement, aid during emergencies, and collection of data enroute which may have critical bearing on safety and efficient transport; data might include oceanographic, meteorological, radiological, and other information; various concepts of navigation satellite systems are outlined as proposed by General Electric Co, Westinghouse, Inc, and Philco Corp; evaluation of systems is being carried out by Joint Navigation Satellite Committee.
