Developed by AC Spark Plug Div for some 1963 model General Motors cars, system automatically maintains preselected cruising speed and relieves driver of having to maintain right foot in constant, fixed position on accelerator pedal during long periods of driving; system operates as closed loop servomechanism and continuously modulates manifold vacuum supply to diaphragm that controls engine throttle to maintain desired cruising speed; electrical signals representing difference between desired and actual road speed are generated to operate solenoid valve that controls diaphragm; fail-safe features.
