There is direct link between old horse drawn carriage body and present automobile body; link stems from discovery of "French Rule" in 1875, which was system of using geometrical formulas, that made it possible to reproduce curved panel surfaces of carriage body; paper contains suggestion to body designers to examine old carriage bodies for fresh ideas; various examples cited.
