Reference made to modification of design criteria for flexible pavements prompted by pavement distress at air bases caused by channelized traffic of heavy aircraft; tests indicated that increase in total thickness as specified in interim design criteria is not needed; revised or current compaction requirements for cohesionless soils are adequate for deep sand subgrade for depths below about 3 ft from surface; cohesionless material above 3 ft depth should be compacted to highest practicable density.
