Paper examines part that metal fatigue plays in engineering of helicopter, and outlines methods used to estimate safe fatigue life of component parts of helicopter; recent flight and fatigue testing carried out at Yoevil Div of Westland Aircraft Ltd was to examine flight loading conditions upon helicopter components, which are subject to vibratory loads, and to estimate their fatigue strength; it is shown how results of tests are used in life substantiation.
