Review of thermodynamic characteristics required of engines for future 'vectored thrust' low level strike aircraft, having supersonic capability; relative merits of extreme forms of power plant are discussed from engine and power plant designer's viewpoint and these are linked with spectrum of aircraft which lies between these extremes of design.
