Consideration is given primarily to potential improvements in flight transportation as motivating factor for research in aerodynamics selected from following categories -- performance, aeroelasticity and airloads, stability and control; examples of potential advances in high speed and low speed vehicle design; it is concluded that during next decade intensive research effort in hypersonic flight regime would appear justified in order to permit continued evaluation of desirability of developing hypersonic transport.
