Project being constructed by Triborough Bridge and Tunnel Authority, consists of two parallel tubes, each providing for two lanes of traffic, stretching 9117 ft portal to portal; max depth of roadway is 115 ft below mean high water; power for derrick used in construction is supplied by 150-hp D13000 Caterpillar Diesel engine; compressed air supplied by 16 Caterpillar (D13000) driven, Gardner-Denver air compressors.
