Paper deals with self propelled, revolving, variable boom cranes used on construction jobs; principle motions of mobile crane which may be crawler, truck, or wheel mounted; problem of defining rated loads; tipping load calculations; present stability rating factors and requirements; it is suggested that comparison of geometrically dissimilar machines would be more realistic if rated load tables were established on basis of effective reach beyond tipping axis instead of on basis of radius.
