Flame-holding capabilities of number of jets and combinations of these with V-gutter flame holder were investigated at severe afterburner operating conditions; at inlet-air velocity of 600 ft/sec, no flame holder alone was able to maintain stable combustion at flow rates and injection pressures available from compressor-bleed air; with various combinations stable combustion was achieved at velocity given.
