Weight of representative transport aircraft utilizing blown flap installation to attain STOL performance is compared with that of aircraft of similar performance having unblown flap and larger wing; former is shown to have larger payload capacity for equal gross weights when design stall speed is less than 40 knots; design conditions most favorable for blown flap installation indicated.
