Field of submerged bodies, such as combat or cargo carrying submarines and torpedoes, is surveyed from viewpoint of similarity considerations; lift to drag ratio of body is represented as unique junction of Froude number, leading to corresponding relations for ratio of machinery weight to total weight; importance of weight suggests for underwater propulsion similar developments from propeller to ducted fan engine, and to ramjet or rocket as in aircraft field.
