Trambeam system made by Whiting Corp enables completed Detroit diesel engines to be washed down and painted on continuous basis with little or no manual handling; engine becomes airborne once it is delivered to paint area and does not touch ground again until it is set down on shipping skid in dock area; putting production line in air space above floor leaves area uncluttered and places engine in advantageous position for easy processing; Trambeam system resembles overhead railroad; 28 lug-mounted electric hoists, each having four-ton capacity, travel along electrified rail and bear engine through washing and painting process.
