Several important configuration features are discussed relative to adaptation of Lockheed XH-51A rigid rotor to compound research flight vehicle; testing undertaken to support XH-51A compound program included flight test of both three and four-bladed rotor helicopter; flight tests of compound research vehicle through Phase I and Phase II and results in terms of measured data and handling characteristics are presented; flight tests peculiar to compound aircraft are discussed along with pilot qualitative comments.
