25,000-v single-phase 50-cycle electric traction was chosen to replace steam traction on Marseilles-Vintimille line to complete first stage of its electrification scheme; line was equipped with color-light automatic block signaling enabling trains to run with close headway; dual-current electric locomotives are used (25,200 and 25,500) series) running at equivalent power on d-c equipment when fed from 1500-d-c catenaries in Marseilles station and depot, or on a-c equipment when fed from 25,000-v 50-cycle catenaries, changeover from one system to other taking place as gap section is passed.
