To relieve congestion, Southern Pacific completed installation of centralized traffic control on 17 mi single-track section of heavy grades and curvature; new signaling facilities immediately reduced overall time of trains, thereby increasing capacity to extent that operations have been facilitated on division as whole; track layout and train movements.
