Research project carried out to modify existing system of braking and to give progressive braking without significantly increasing overall braking which could be used in practice where several trailers are towed behind one truck and where it is essential that pneumatic brakes on rear trailer operate first, and that brakes are applied progressively up line to front to ensure that jackknifing does not occur; problem was tackled by introducing venturi tubes at junctions between main and branch lines, so that flow to branch lines and to relay valves had to pass through orifice at venturi throat.
