Paper describes use of tooth contact analysis (TCA) to minimize time required to develop desired tooth contact patterns on spiral bevel gears; application to development of gear set is demonstrated; also described is use of TCA to study effects of various design parameters on tooth contact pattern, with particular emphasis on choice of cutter diameter.
