Optimization problem is reduced to nonlinear two-point boundary-value problem, and several iteration procedures for obtaining numerical solution are described; efficiency of iteration process is influenced by procedure for integration and for correction of estimates of unknown boundary conditions; review of several procedures illustrating their efficiencies by applying each to study of optimal two-dimensional, minimum-time Earth-Mars transfer trajectory for low-thrust space vehicle; least-squares modification is described which enhances considerably convergence characteristics of procedures.
