Laboratory testing equipment is described which involves high capacity wheel load application machine capable of applying successive wheel load repetitions on soils; machine is designed to apply stresses on soils in direction of travel of loaded wheel, thus simulating realistic conditions of loading on highway pavements and subgrades where traffic loads exert pressure in direction of traffic movement; experiments were conducted at Nova Scotia Technical College, Halifax, using clay with variable moisture contents; correlation was sought between realistic wheel load deformations and those obtained from repetitive plate loading tests and triaxial tests.
