Design, simulation, and flight testing of automatic flight control system (AFCS), developed to provide automatic terrain-following capability in supersonic fighter-bomber type of aircraft; functional operation and features of high performance, very reliable fixed-gain AFCS are described; excellent terrain-following performance using AFCS hardware integrated with flight simulator was achieved in six-degree-of-freedom simulation program; automatic flight control system block diagrams are presented; further flight test development and evaluation of automatic terrain-following system will be performed by U S Air Force at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base.
