Roles of Canadian Armed Forces are to support United Nations Operations, NATO and NORAD operations, and internal security operations, where troops and equipment must be moved to any part of country, threatened or held by enemy forces; requirements for these types of operations, dominant factors, and characteristics are examined, and importance of simplicity, reliability and self-sufficiency in design of aircraft systems for these military operations is shown; aircraft range, maintainability and communications are considered with regard to difficulties which have to be overcome.
