Illustrated description of Air France's aircraft wash facility at Orly airport near Paris; conceived by airline towards end of 1961 and put into service in May 1966, it can clean large aircraft about three-times faster and much more efficiently than before; airline believes that surface dirt can cause performance loss of up to 3%, which in turn could increase 707's fuel consumption over sector Paris-New York by as much as 500 gal; each aircraft in fleet is washed on average three times per month, generally just before entering hangars for checkup.
