Paper considers differences between original British and American approaches to all-weather landing; different types of equipment resulting from these approaches are described; basic radio navigational aids and terminology used; IATA Conference at Lucerne, 1963 provided very valuable mixing of ideas on Phase 2 and 3 operations; recommendations made and developments which have occurred since Lucerne, 1963 are indicated.
