Flutter of panels mounted on wedges in hypersonic flow of perfect gas is analyzed in linear formulation using S.C.McIntosh's theory; it is shown that acoustic waves generated by oscillating panels and reflected by bow shock can be neglected for virtually all practical purposes, and flutter of panel is independent of its fore-aft position on wedge; this demonstrates validity of engineering analysis in which flow parameters behind bow wave are computed using oblique shock relations and piston theory applied to panel that is parallel to this flow.
