Progress in Dieselization of Southern Pacific railways; plan calls for progress in four classifications: main line freight, main line passenger local and branch, and yard switching service, with Diesels replacing steam where they would effect greatest economies; plan would ultimately avert duplication of steam and Diesel servicing facilities, afford greater locomotive availability and offer other advantages.
