Combination of greater speed and higher weight means that aircraft structure has been forced to absorb increasingly higher loads, yet aerodynamicist is constantly seeking thinner wings and slimmer bodies in which to place growing structural needs of modern high speed airplane; unequivocal point at which compromise will become necessary will be determined by fatigue strength of structure; solution to problem discussed.
