First stages of extensive road-test program for first turbine-powered train built to North American's newest rail passenger concept are outlined; seven of new trains are in various stages of completion; trainset length, type of accommodations, and installed power can be varied to fit various service requirements; design concepts are described; each Turbo Train is made up of two basic units -- 74-ft power dome cars at both ends and varying number of 57-ft intermediate cars between; each power dome has four engine compartments beneath its elevated floor at lead end.
