Mathematical relationships between track layout and timetable of railroad line, according to Potthoff's theory of stable timetable, are formulated and applied to examination of track layout of double-track line of approximately 300 km length; it is shown how by applying modern signaling techniques with tracks signaled for reversible working, there is scope for further considerable simplifications of track layout.
