It is shown how system of tie renewal on German Federal Railways using Arneke equipment makes it possible to operate services normally after 8-hr possession; tie depositor is controlled by one operator and can lay 40 ties in under 4 min completely automatically; charged with horizontal layer of up to 40 concrete or 80 timber ties it places them individually, one from front and one from rear of machine simultaneously; machine is in two similar halves connected back to back and articulated so that it can operate on curves and lay ties radial to curve.
