Study of dynamics of line of traffic composed of n vehicles; it is postulated that movements of vehicles are controlled by idealized "law of separation"; law specifies that each vehicle must maintain certain prescribed "following distance" from preceding vehicle; by application of law to motion of column of vehicles, differential equations governing dynamic state of system are obtained.
