Final designs were prepared by Ateliers et Chantiers de France of Dunkerque, who were awarded contract for Flandre; Antilles was built to same design at Brest naval dockyard; length oa is 597 ft, with accommodation for 777 passengers and total cargo capacity of 5035 tons; propelling machinery consists of twin screw, double reduction Rateau type turbines with normal output of 36,000 shp at 175 rpm.
