New Fairbanks Morse unit for 80 mph passenger service or heavy freight hauls; power plant is 12 cyl, 2400 hp F-M opposed piston engine, to which is added driving power of two traction motors, for total of six driving axles; unit is expected to provide 50% to 60% more power, 50% to 90% more continuous rating, and 50% more weight on drivers as compared with 1500 or 1600 hp four motor, four axle diesel locomotive now in service.
