Of conceivable vehicle configurations for nonlifting entry into earth's atmosphere shapes considered are -- spheres, spherical segments, and sphere-cones; total weight of entry vehicle was divided into structure, heat protection system (ablative material and insulation), and payload; equations and computational methods for shapes consisting of spherical segments, and for sphere cone shapes for which computer program, entry vehicle synthesis was used; comparison of sphere cone and spherical segment configurations.
