Characteristics of trajectories are examined and factors that determine them, i.e., powered flight phases and geometrical constraints imposed by overall trajectory; geometrical properties that strongly influence ascent trajectory are launch site location, outward radial direction, and launch azimuth; direct ascent and parking orbit types of trajectories are investigated and compared; superiority of parking orbit type is shown having greater payload capability and providing method of launch time delay compensation; injection locations of Mars and Venus trajectories using parking orbits are mapped.
