Review of basic research in muskeg trafficability is presented; oil industry work on 6 vehicles designed to traverse organic terrain is considered; design principles suggested for such vehicles are given; Canadian Defence Research Board program covering selection of areas of each representative type of muskeg, microtopographic survey of surface and measurement of surface and subsurface strength of each type, and to determine optimum vehicle goemetry and power requirement necessary to negotiate each type of muskeg, is described.
