Discussion of stability conditions for straight axial course of vessel being towed provides conclusions for case where straight course of free vessel is "slightly" unstable and where it is clearly unstable; example pertains to calculations for conditions of stability of escort vessel (destroyer) whose hydrodynamic characteristics have been measured on model.
