While primary function of operational meteorological satellite system is aimed toward obtaining observations of meteorological significance, experiences indicate applicability of satellite data interpretation to other areas, such as studies of ice, snow, detection of major forest fires, or prediction of probable migration of swarms of desert locusts; examples and photographs.
