With locked-wheel trailer on wet pavements, curves indicating friction coefficients vs speed can be plotted and classified by degree of decrease of coefficient with increasing speed; correlation was found between mean width of voids in pavement surface and steepness of friction-speed curve, curve steepening with closer surface; friction coefficient and wear index differences between out-side and inside lanes of 4-lane highways provided measure for change in skid resistance caused by traffic; cement concrete has least decrease in skid resistance under traffic.
