Reasons behind choice of crescent wing for Handley Page H.P.80 Victor; comparison of three different designs; Boeing B-47 (straight wings), Vulcan (delta wing with no tail), and Victor; all obtained high critical Mach number with equal success; for range and load carrying ability cresent and podded wings are better; for high altitude, takeoff and landing, manoeuvrability at height and high air speeds, crescent and delta are better than podded wing.
