Outlines empirical relations between vessel's speed, engine, and propeller power; results of model experiments and author's own experience are analyzed to determine an expression for comparative critical speed and related expression giving resistance corresponding to this critical speed; relation of propeller thrust to ship resistance; relation between various expressions for resistance and thrust is considered from point of view of power developed by engines.
