Periodic solution describing nonlinear waveform of fundamental longitudinal mode of combustion instability is obtained; waveform consists of shock discontinuities followed by exponential decays in pressure and gas velocity; investigation of forcing function or driving mechanism of instability in quantitative manner by experimentally determining wave shape in chamber; model of combustion zone dynamics is studied which considers chemical kinetics as important factor in forcing functions; results are compared with experimental results on Princeton gas rocket research program.
