Feb. 1: Three-dimensional theory of static equilibrium of floating bodies is worked out using vector mathematics; total volume of submerged displacement is used to calculate movement of center of buoyancy and hence stability; consideration of initial stability leads to consideration of surface of buoyancy and to general stability problem. (see also brief translated abstract in Mar. Engr. and Motorship Bldr., vol. 54, no. 642, Mar. 1931, p. 116)
