In order to study propulsive problems involved in pushing, Bavarian Lloyd and Guete-Hoffnungshuette conducted model tests in Hamburg Tank; these were followed up by full-scale tests with tugs, Isar and Uhu; results with Isar show propulsive economy in favor of pushing of from 10 to 12 per cent; with Uhu, economy is some 25 per cent.
