Study by E.I.du Pont de Nemours on antiknock effectiveness of tetramethyl lead (TML) relative to TEL in 75 different fuels; data show that TML has maximum advantage over TEL in cars with poor fuel distribution and in fuels with poor octane distribution over boiling range; TML gives greatest octane improvement by Modified Uniontown method and least improvement by Research method; TML has no adverse effect on gasoline stability.
