Liner was built by Rotterdam Dry-dock Co for Holland-America Line; two distinguishing features are use of tall smokestacks in place of funnels, and horizontal arrangement of accommodation which segregates first and tourist classes without confining either to one section of ship; length oa 748 ft, breadth molded 94 ft, load draft 29 ft 6 in., gross 38,650 tons: two sets of De Schelde/Parsons steam turbines have output of 35,000 shp.
