X-ray diffraction, electron microscopy, thermochemical analysis, and measurement of capacity change after repeated charge-discharge cycles show that cadmium active material in nickel-cadmium battery may be expanded with iron; normal loss of capacity attributed to coagulation of cadmium which is inhibited in presence of iron.
