Tubular car has tear drop shape, with no internal obstructions; it carries 103-ton payload, increase of about 7 tons over conventional covered aluminum hopper, and 14 tons over steel car; Aluminum Co of Canada is testing tubular railroad cars for shipping lime, cement, alumina, gypsum, adipic acid and polyethylene.
