General methods are described for use of random vibration analysis techniques in vehicle development including basic philosophy and specific recommendations for design of test procedures in vehicle evaluation and problem diagnosis tasks; review of work done by Ford Motor Co on fundamental vibration sources such as road profile perturbation and rotating tire inputs; final and most important task is effective description of mechanism of vibrations including identification of predominant vibration sources, determination of pertinent system parameters, and, for continuous elastic structures, description of mode shapes.
